About the pieces
Yes. Every rug is listed once. When it sells, it is removed from the site permanently. We do not restock or reproduce any piece. This is how it has always worked in the souk: one rug, one buyer.
We carry four categories, all sourced from Atlas Mountain cooperatives and the Souk des Tapis in Marrakech:
Beni Ouarain: high pile, cream base, dark charcoal diamond geometry. The classic minimalist Atlas rug.
Azilal: high pile, abstract multicoloured geometry on cream or ivory.
Boujaad: medium pile, bold expressive colour. Magenta, red, orange, pink.
Kilim: flat weave, bold geometric patterns, often striped.
All dimensions are measured by us in Marrakech before listing, in both feet and centimetres. Handwoven rugs can vary by 1–3 cm from the stated measurement. This is inherent to the craft and not a defect. If exact dimensions are critical for your space, contact us before ordering.
For daily care, vacuum on a low setting without a beater bar. Rotate the rug every 6–12 months for even wear. For spills, blot immediately. Do not rub. For a deep clean, we recommend professional rug cleaning only. Avoid machine washing and direct prolonged sunlight, which can fade natural dyes.
High pile rugs (Beni Ouarain, Azilal, Boujaad) have a deep, soft, wool texture, typically 3 to 5 cm. They are warm underfoot and create a plush, luxurious feel.
Flat weave rugs (Kilim) have no pile, the pattern is woven directly into the structure. Thinner, more durable underfoot, ideal for high-traffic areas or layering.
Where the rugs come from
Every rug ships with a printed provenance card, a document of authenticity, not a marketing insert. It states the rug's origin region, weave type, approximate age, dimensions, and the name of the cooperative or souk location it came from. It is yours to keep with the piece.
All rugs are sourced from the Atlas Mountains of Morocco, primarily the Middle and High Atlas regions, and the Souk des Tapis in Marrakech's medina. We do not source from factories. Every piece comes from a weaver cooperative or directly from a souk artisan whose family has worked the trade for generations.
The rugs are made by Berber weavers, predominantly women, working in cooperatives across the Atlas Mountains. Weaving is passed down through family lines: the geometry is memorised, not drawn. Our family has worked directly with these cooperatives since 1962, and the relationships are personal, not transactional.
It depends on the size and weave type. A small Kilim may take two to three weeks. A large Beni Ouarain, hand-knotted knot by knot, can take two to three months. This is why no two rugs are ever the same: time and human judgment go into every inch.
